Insurance and liability in machinery transport
With machines, the value per kilogram is often high. Statutory carrier liability, by contrast, is limited per kilogram – in Germany under the Commercial Code, internationally under the CMR Convention. That is why it should be clear before transport how the value is covered.
What matters
- Limited liability
- For valuable machines, statutory liability often covers only part of the value. That is not an exception but the rule.
- Check your own insurance
- Many companies have transit or cargo insurance. Whether it covers this transport is something to clarify with your insurer.
- Additional insurance
- Whether additional transit insurance via us is possible is discussed on request – with declared value and conditions.
- Documenting condition
- Photos at takeover and handover help everyone involved if damage occurs.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- What is the value of the machine?
- Is there already transit or cargo insurance that covers this transport?
- Would you like additional insurance?
- Under the agreed delivery term, who bears the risk during transport?
- Should the condition at takeover and handover be recorded with photos?
What we need from you
- Goods value (in conversation, not necessarily in the form)
- Existing insurance
- Agreed delivery term
- Request for condition documentation
Preparation: You hand the machine over ready for transport – dismantling, later installation and commissioning are done by your team or the manufacturer's service.
What we do for you
What we organise
- Transport planned around dimensions, weight and route – with the right vehicle and secure load
- Loading, unloading and crane work organised alongside on request
- One contact who coordinates dates with you and the people on site
Good to know
An entered goods value does not trigger automatic insurance cover. If you want additional protection, we agree the scope in the quote.

Questions and answers: Clarifying insurance and liability
Is a machine automatically insured for its full value in transport?
No. Statutory carrier liability is limited per kilogram and often covers only part of the value of valuable machines.
Can additional insurance be agreed?
Yes, on request. We discuss value and conditions with you and agree the scope in the quote.
Does condition documentation help if damage occurs?
Yes. Photos at takeover and handover make the condition traceable for everyone involved.
