Transporting grinding machines
Grinding machines work in the micrometre range. Their heavy bed is meant to dampen vibration – for transport this means a lot of weight on a small area and sensitive guideways that must be protected from shocks and moisture.
What matters
- Heavy bed
- The cast iron or mineral casting bed puts a lot of weight on a small footprint. Load distribution on the vehicle is planned accordingly.
- Grinding wheel
- Grinding wheels are removed before transport or secured according to the manufacturer – a loose wheel is a risk.
- Guideways and measuring systems
- Guideways, scales and dressing units are covered and protected against corrosion.
- Coolant
- Filter systems and coolant tanks are often separate units and are transported empty.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- Is it a surface, cylindrical, profile or tool grinder?
- Will the grinding wheel be removed before collection?
- Is there a separate coolant or filter system?
- Are there lifting points or a transport frame from the manufacturer?
- Does the machine need particular protection against moisture during transport?
What we need from you
- Design, manufacturer and weight
- Dimensions of the machine and auxiliary units
- Details of lifting points
- Protection required (cover, packaging)
Preparation: You hand the machine over ready for transport – dismantling, later installation and commissioning are done by your team or the manufacturer's service.
What we do for you
What we organise
- Transport planned around dimensions, weight and route – with the right vehicle and secure load
- Loading, unloading and crane work organised alongside on request
- One contact who coordinates dates with you and the people on site
Good to know
Remove the grinding wheel, empty the systems and preserve the slideways – with this preparation the machine arrives in the best condition.
How it works
- 01
Request
You send route, date and machine details using the form below – anything unknown can stay open.
- 02
Review
We check the load distribution of the heavy bed, the lifting points and which cover or packaging makes sense for the route.
- 03
Quote
You receive a quote with the agreed scope – on request including loading and crane organisation.
- 04
Execution
Low-shock loading at the lifting points, securing with protection of the guideways, transport and handover.
Questions and answers: Grinding machines
Does the grinding wheel have to be removed before transport?
As a rule yes, or it is secured according to the manufacturer. A loose grinding wheel is a risk to machine and people during transport.
Why are grinding machines hard to load despite compact dimensions?
Their heavy cast iron or mineral casting bed puts a lot of weight on a small area. Lifting equipment and load distribution on the vehicle are designed for this.
How are the guideways protected against moisture?
Bare surfaces are preserved and covered before collection. On long routes, tight packaging with desiccant can also make sense.
