Transporting generator sets and emergency power units
Generator sets come open on a base frame or sound-insulated in an enclosure or container. Besides dimensions and weight, fuel, starter batteries and coolant have to be clarified for transport.
What matters
- Fuel
- We clarify beforehand whether and how much fuel may remain in the tank. Residual quantities may be relevant under dangerous goods rules.
- Batteries
- Starter batteries are disconnected and secured or packed separately.
- Design
- Open sets usually have lifting eyes on the base frame; containerised sets are slung like a container.
- Centre of gravity
- Engine and alternator are not centred. The centre of gravity is often on the rating plate or in the data sheet.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- What output, design and weight does the set have?
- How much fuel is in the tank, and can it be pumped out?
- Are the batteries disconnected?
- Is it open, in an enclosure or in a container?
- Where are the lifting points, and where is the centre of gravity?
What we need from you
- Manufacturer, output and weight
- Dimensions and design
- Fuel level and battery status
- Loading situation at both sites
Preparation: You hand the machine over ready for transport – dismantling, later installation and commissioning are done by your team or the manufacturer's service.
What we do for you
What we organise
- Transport planned around dimensions, weight and route – with the right vehicle and secure load
- Loading, unloading and crane work organised alongside on request
- One contact who coordinates dates with you and the people on site
Good to know
With fuel drained and attachments secured, the genset travels safely. Tell us dimensions and weight including canopy or container.
How it works
- 01
Request
You send route, date and machine details using the form below – anything unknown can stay open.
- 02
Review
We clarify fuel and batteries in advance, check lifting points and centre of gravity and choose the loading equipment.
- 03
Quote
You receive a quote with the agreed scope – on request including loading and crane organisation.
- 04
Execution
Loading at the lifting points, securing, transport and handover at destination.
Questions and answers: Generator sets
May a generator set be transported with fuel in the tank?
We clarify this beforehand. Residual quantities may be relevant under dangerous goods rules; depending on the case, the tank is pumped out or the quantity stated for planning.
What happens to the starter batteries?
They are disconnected and secured or packed separately.
How is a containerised generator slung?
Usually like a container, at the designated corner castings; open sets at the lifting eyes of the base frame.
