Transporting sliding-head lathes

Sliding-head (Swiss-type) lathes are more compact than large lathes, but highly precise and connected to a long bar feeder. For transport, protection against shocks and a clean separation of machine and feeder matter most.

What matters

Two parts, two lengths
Machine and bar feeder are separated. The feeder is long and narrow and needs its own support and securing.
Precision
Guide bush and spindles are sensitive to hard shocks. Calm lifting and good load securing matter more than speed.
Oil and coolant
Many sliding-head lathes run on cutting oil. Tanks are drained or secured according to the manufacturer so that nothing leaks.
Compact footprint
The machine can often be lifted well with a forklift – if the fork positions are known.

Planning questions

We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.

  1. Which manufacturer and size is it?
  2. Will the bar feeder be separated, and how long is it?
  3. Are oil and coolant tanks drained or secured?
  4. Where are the pick-up points for forklift or crane?
  5. Is there further equipment such as an oil mist separator or parts conveyor?

What we need from you

  • Type, weight and dimensions of the machine
  • Length and weight of the bar feeder
  • List of accessories
  • Loading situation on site

Preparation: You hand the machine over ready for transport – dismantling, later installation and commissioning are done by your team or the manufacturer's service.

What we do for you

What we organise

  • Transport planned around dimensions, weight and route – with the right vehicle and secure load
  • Loading, unloading and crane work organised alongside on request
  • One contact who coordinates dates with you and the people on site

Good to know

Machine and bar magazine travel separately and well secured – so both arrive safely and can be reunited quickly.

How it works

  1. 01

    Request

You send route, date and machine details using the form below – anything unknown can stay open.

  2. 02

    Review

We check how machine and bar feeder are supported and secured on the vehicle and clarify the pick-up points.

  3. 03

    Quote

You receive a quote with the agreed scope – on request including loading and crane organisation.

  4. 04

    Execution

Loading machine and feeder, low-shock securing, transport and handover at destination.

Questions and answers: Sliding-head lathes

How is a sliding-head lathe protected from shocks?

By lifting calmly at the designated points, good load securing and protecting the guide bush and spindles. Machine and bar feeder are supported and secured separately.

Does the cutting oil have to be drained?

Oil and coolant tanks are drained or sealed according to the manufacturer so that nothing leaks. Your service team does this before collection.

Can a sliding-head lathe be moved with a forklift?

Often yes, because it is compact – provided the pick-up points for the forks are known. The bar feeder is handled separately.
