Transporting CNC milling machines
A CNC milling machine is heavy, tall and often top-heavy: column, spindle head and tool magazine sit high up. For a safe transport, it is not only dimensions and weight that count but also how the machine can be secured and lifted.
What matters
- Top-heavy design
- With travelling-column and gantry designs a lot of mass sits high. Lifting only takes place at the manufacturer's points, and driving with appropriate load securing.
- Fixing axes and table
- Table, slides and spindle head are moved to transport position and fixed with transport locks – part of dismantling before collection.
- Attachments
- Chip conveyor, coolant tank, tool magazine and control cabinet are often separate packages. Each item needs dimensions and weight.
- Protecting the guideways
- Open guideways and the spindle nose are sensitive to shocks and moisture. Covers and corrosion protection are part of the preparation.
Planning questions
We clarify these points before quoting – the earlier they are known, the more precise the plan.
- Which manufacturer and type is it, and is there a transport manual?
- Have the axes and spindle head been moved to transport position and secured?
- Which attachments travel separately – chip conveyor, coolant unit, control cabinet?
- Are there crane eyes or transport bores, or will it be lifted with a forklift?
- How tall is the machine in transport position?
What we need from you
- Manufacturer, type and weight from the rating plate
- Dimensions in transport position
- List of attachments with dimensions
- Loading situation at collection and destination
Preparation: You hand the machine over ready for transport – dismantling, later installation and commissioning are done by your team or the manufacturer's service.
What we do for you
What we organise
- Transport planned around dimensions, weight and route – with the right vehicle and secure load
- Loading, unloading and crane work organised alongside on request
- One contact who coordinates dates with you and the people on site
Good to know
Have the machine moved into transport position and coolant drained before collection. Then we can load quickly and transport safely.
How it works
- 01
Request
You send route, date and machine details using the form below – anything unknown can stay open.
- 02
Review
We check transport height and weight against the vehicle, the manufacturer's lifting points and whether attachments can travel along.
- 03
Quote
You receive a quote with the agreed scope – on request including loading and crane organisation.
- 04
Execution
Loading at the designated points – with an organised crane on request –, securing machine and attachments, transport and handover.
Questions and answers: CNC milling machines
Can a CNC milling machine be loaded with a forklift?
Some can, many cannot. Weight, a high centre of gravity and whether the manufacturer provides fork pockets decide. Otherwise lifting takes place at crane eyes or transport bores – with an organised crane on request.
Does the chip conveyor have to be removed before transport?
Usually yes. Chip conveyor, coolant tank and often the control cabinet travel as separate items. We need dimensions and weight for each.
Who secures axes and spindle head for transport?
Your service or the manufacturer moves the machine to transport position and fits the transport locks. We then take over the machine ready for transport.
